Kidde 900-0234 Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide Alarm

About Carbon Monoxide: The Silent Killer
The leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, carbon monoxide (CO) is often referred to as the silent killer because it's odorless, tasteless, and invisible. Carbon monoxide poisoning can come about via a number of sources, including everyday items and appliances in your home or office. And because symptoms of CO poisoning mimic the flu or other common illnesses, CO poisoning can often go undiagnosed.
When placed on every level of your home, alarms like the Nighthawk 900-0234 can help protect everyone in the house from CO exposure by giving an unmistakable audible signal when CO levels have reached an unhealthy point.
Easy-to-Read Digital Display Shows CO Levels
Featuring a small, sleek, discreet design that's suitable for all living areas, the Nighthawk 900-0234 is preferred among CO alarms because of its digital display. This display clearly shows current levels of CO--from 30 to 999 ppm--and it updates every 15 seconds, giving you an indication of any abrupt changes or alarming trends. The display also shows the peak CO level recorded by the alarm since it was last reset or unplugged.
Loud Alerts Signal Elevated Levels and Low Battery Life
The Nighthawk 900-0234 immediately sounds a loud warning signal if CO has reached an elevated, unsafe level in your home, giving you plenty of time to leave the premises. You'll also hear a clearly audible alert when the product is nearing the end of its seven-year life, or the battery needs changing.
Battery Operated for Continuous Monitoring
For added convenience, the Nighthawk 900-0234 also has a battery backup, which means you won't have to worry about power outages. Unlike many A/C units, the Nighthawk will monitor continuously without interruptions. And because it has a seven-year product life, it's able to provide protection up to 40 percent longer than other units.
User-Friendly, Protective Features
For added peace of mind, the Nighthawk 900-0234 has a test/reset button that allows you to verify that the alarm is functioning properly, and a tamper-resistant feature that works by putting the unit into constant alarm mode if it has been unplugged or has come loose from the outlet.
Compliancy and Warranty Information
The Nighthawk 900-0234 is UL listed and is backed by a seven-year limited warranty.

"Defective" 2010-09-22
By Robert
For no particular reason, every several days the alarm would read "error" and start beeping. No, it wasn't near any source of combustion, open windows or cooking. You can only reset it so many times before realizing that you simply can't live with something like that. Out with the trash.

"No problems after 6 months" 2010-07-23
By G. Ware (Colorado USA)
I have had this unit in our bedroom for over 6 months with no issues. No false alarms and no backup batter issues, it just works or at least the display tells me so. I do like the display on these units rather then just a status light like other lower priced models. If you are looking for a higher quality carbon monoxide detector then I would sure take a look at this unit. I have had other Kidde Nighthawks with no problems as well. Just remember that after a number of years all detectors are no longer good and need to be replaced.

"Waste of money" 2010-07-18
By EEMueller
I purchased this unit as a backup to the gas and CO detectors that are wired into my central alarm system. In the 5 months that I've had this unit installed, it has false alarmed 4 times, each time indicating explosive gas. The last one was last night with a house full of guests. The other detector sensed nothing, and after reading some reviews, I found this type of failure with Kidde alarms is very common. This beauty is headed straight for the trash.

"good CO detector, like the digital display and battery-backup" 2010-07-11
By Jiminy Cricket (downstate NY USA)
Both 2 of these to replace my 7-year-old Kidde CO detectors of a similar model, one per floor. They plug into any wall outet. I like the battery-backup and the digital CO level display. If you press a button, you can see "peak" CO level since the last reset. Am using these peak level readings to try to track down occasional very low levels of CO that are too low to be dangerous or trigger any alarm. I am pleased with these CO detectors. My only complaint is that I wish I could see the instantaneous low level CO readings [but such pro CO detectors normally cost much more].One important point. There is something you have to do to prevent the unit from beeping every minute on battery backup if the AC power goes out. Follow the instructions to do that and you will like this unit much better as a result.

"Good Product" 2010-06-01
By horsey girl
This is the first carbon monoxide detector I have ever purchased so I don't have any other experiences to compare it to. I've had it for a week and it seems to be working just fine. I really like the digital display that indicates "0" so I know that there is no carbon monoxide at all in the home. I'm assuming this is an accurate reading. (Hopefully!). It does seem like it is a quality product. I did use the test option to see if that worked and it did exactly what it was supposed to do.I did take one star off because of the ear-splitting noise you have to deal with when you put the battery in and also if you unplug the thing from the wall. I nearly jumped out of my skin! As soon as you install the battery---Be prepared for the noise!! You will want to hold the button in the back---walk it over to the wall--and plug it in immediately.I would recommend this product.
